Farrell Hall, the second largest building at Fernald, was opened in 1960. It was primary used as a Children's Unit, and later as a dormitory for its most dependent and challenging clients. The building also housed occupational therapy activities. The basement of Farrell Hall was fashioned into a research lab with five responsive environments booths, children's classrooms with observation rooms, offices and a seminar room. The building was named after Dr. Malcolm J. Farrell, who became superintendent of the Fernald Center in 1945.
