History

The Parkman Building was erected in 1983 to replace the aging Food Service Building in the center of the campus. Its large footprint housed the industrial-grade kitchen and related supplies needed to feed the institution's residents. The building was last used by a third-party tenant, Morrison Healthcare, which provided meals to several healthcare facilities in the region.

Architectural Description

Parkman is a modern structure consisting of two sections, a flat-roofed eastern wing and a tall gabled western wing. The former is clad in stone while the latter has upper portions built with brick. Both wings contain burnt headers in their brickwork. The gabled section of Parkman contains a large central ventilation cupola and overshooting center peak, strongly evoking the appearance of a Gothic-arch barn and visually reinforcing its role in food production. Dormers line the taller section, which provide the interior with plenty of natural light from recessed in the ceiling. A loading dock is present on the south side.
